Famous five for fabulous Finn
Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi won five gold medals to add to the three he had won in 1920. In an astonishing feat, he picked up the 1500m and 5000m titles despite having a break of about an hour between the two events.

Tarzan makes his mark
American swimmer Johnny Weissmuller, who was to become a Hollywood star in the Tarzan movies, won two gold medals on one day in the 100m and 400m freestyle and added a bronze in water polo later that same day.

Chariots of Fire
British runner Harold Abrahams won the 100m and team-mate Eric Liddell the 400m in what would become the basis for the 1981 film Chariots Of Fire.
