Bolt 'good to go' despite recent injury fears

The agent of sprinter Usain Bolt has insisted the Jamaican is fully fit ahead of London 2012, amid speculation he has been struggling with an injury problem.

Bolt looked below par during the recent Jamaican Olympic trials, cutting an unusually sombre figure on the startline for races and appearing to struggle with his running technique as he was beaten by training partner Yohan Blake in both the 100m and 200m.

Speculation had immediately started that Bolt was struggling with a fitness problem that could yet rule him out of the Games - but his agent, Ricky Simms, insists Bolt simply had a slight hamstring injury that is no longer an issue.

"He's back to normal, he's back in full training and he's good to go," Simms told the Daily Telegraph. "His body is back to normal. The muscle tightness has gone."

Simms added: "He had a slightly tight hamstring during the trials and that's why possibly he didn't push as hard as he could have. He was just protecting that. The main thing at the trials was to get through and get on the team for the Olympic Games."

Bolt has pulled out of a scheduled appearance at the upcoming Diamond League meeting in Monaco, but again Simms said that was simply a precautionary measure.

"His coach decided that he needs to get a little bit of massage and treatment on that and rest up, and then train again hard next week so that he's ready for the Olympic Games."

Simms did admit, however, that Bolt had recently visited fabled sports doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt in Germany - but insisted that it was for a pre-planned check-up on a congenital back condition rather than an emergency appointment.

Muller-Wohlfahrt's previous list of clients includes the likes of Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate, while he has worked with Bolt for a number of years to ease the issues he suffers related to a curvature of the spine that has been with him since birth.
