Idowu appears to have overcome injury concerns

Phillips Idowu looks set to put his injury concerns to one side after being confirmed on the entry list for the triple jump at this weekend's Diamond League meeting at Crystal Palace.

There had been fears that Idowu, one of Team GB's brightest hopes for a medal inside the Olympic Stadium this summer, would be forced to miss London 2012 - after UK Athletics chief Charles van Commenee revealed at the announcement of his Olympic selection that the 33-year-old was suffering with a mystery injury.

However, the 2008 silver medallist looks set to overcome his concerns to take a full part in the Games - as he gets a warm-up event under his belt in south London on Saturday.

Idowu has maintained a low profile in the run-up to London 2012 - with his fitness status in recent weeks clouded in mystery - but world record holder and former Olympic champion Jonathan Edwards believes he is following the right plan in the pursuit of a gold medal.

"He's an East End boy - hugely marketable and could have done high-profile deals," Edwards said. "But I think he has done it absolutely right. You don't get any sense that the commercial arrangements are going to take anything away from his Games' preparation.

"You can earn everything when you get that gold medal. There is a big difference between being Olympic champion and winning silver.

"It is that sense of pride and what you have achieved, Olympic champion at a home Games. That moment will stand out for the rest of your life. You don't want anything to deny that chance."
