Idowu at odds with Van Commenee over fitness
Phillips Idowu has given himself a clean bill of health, with his claim about his fitness contrasting with the comments of Team GB chief Charles van Commenee.
Triple jumper Idowu is one of Britian's brightest medal chances at London 2012, but concerns were raised when Van Commenee said the 34-year-old was injured.
"The athlete is injured," Van Commenee said earlier in July. "At least that's what we know. How can I possibly be confident [he will compete]?"
Idowu and Van Commenee have not always had the best relationship and had a row on Twitter last year. It would appear that they are still not on the best of terms as Idowu claims he does not know where the new about his fitness came from.
"I'm well, I'm good there are no problems," he said. "I have never said or mentioned anything about an injury. "No one has heard the words come out of my mouth or from my coach or any of my team. I have let that rumour mill stir itself."
Idowu claims he has not competed in recent weeks to ensure he is at peak condition for London 2012.
He said: "It's given me an opportunity to focus on my preparation for the Games, which I think has gone really well.
"I pulled out of Oslo and Paris to prepare for the Games. I never compete in every single meet I put my name down for."
