Jessica Ennis admits that anything less than gold at London 2012 will be considered a failure, although she is loathe to label herself the favourite for heptathlon glory.

Ennis is one of Britain's main gold medal hopes heading into the Olympics, with many tipping her to top the rostrum at her home Games.

The 2009 world champion, 26, is not afraid of the added pressure but says she will only focus on what she can control, and that is bringing her A-game.

"I think because of the expectation and the pressure, anything but gold - everyone would view that as a failure," she said. "And I'm aware of that. But it's just about focusing on what I know I can do - just making the most out of every event.

"And if I give it absolutely everything and I don't come away with the gold, then at least I'd know I've done everything I could, just wasn't the better person on the day. But, like I say, I'm going to go there, I'm going to give it everything and see what I can do."

Ennis begins her quest for gold on August 3 and the Sheffield-born star has declared herself ready for action.

"I feel really good," she said. "I'm happy with all the training that I've done, I'm happy with the competitions and the preparation. So I think I'm pretty much ready to go - there's not much more I can do at this stage. So just the final little bits of preparation and our training camp, and I'm good to go."

A foot injury meant she missed the Beijing Games four years ago, and the Brit is keen to make up for lost time.

"I do think about that time when I missed out and how I felt and it just makes me appreciate this moment even more and the position that I'm in," she added. "I'm happy to go in a really great time of my life so I'm just trying to make the most of it, enjoy it and do the best I can.

"I'm definitely ready for the competition to start now. It's been such a huge build-up for all of us and I'm feeling ready to get on with it now. I've done all the hard training and put all the hard work in so I'm looking forward to getting onto the track and competing.

"It's been a mad couple of years but it's been great, it's been a brilliant experience. I'm really happy with my season, the way it's gone so far, and all the other great opportunities and things that I've had. It's been a great year so far and I just want to put the icing on the cake when we get to London and hopefully have a great performance down there."
