Djokovic topples Tsonga to set up Murray clash

Novak Djokovic set up an Olympics semi-final clash with Andy Murray with a 6-1 7-5 win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The Serbian made a sublime start before taking his foot off the gas and allowing Tsonga back into the game. But as is so often the case, Djokovic regrouped and hit a telling blow in the 11th game of the second set before serving out for a straight sets victory.

Djokovic was in supreme form early in the game, with Tsonga looking like a punch-drunk boxer in the face of a barrage from his opponent. It was not as if Tsonga played badly, but 12 winners from Djokovic took him to the first set in 32 minutes.

Tsonga came out strong at the start of the second set and some excellent court craft which included chipping and charging and serving and volleying helped him claim a break of serve.

The Frenchman raced into a 3-0 lead in the second set but Djokovic waited for his opening and after levelling, he upped his game in the key 11th game to close out the match.

In the other semi-final, Wimbledon champion Roger Federer will face Juan Martin del Potro after both men came through tough semi-finals.

Federer, looking to add an elusive Olympic singles gold medal to his collection, triumphed 6-4 7-6(5) against American John Isner, while Del Potro had too much for Kei Nishikori, as he too needed a second set tiebreak to finally conclude a 6-4 7-6(4) success.

In the women's singles, Serena Williams looks firmly on course to follow-up her Wimbledon win of last month after crushing Caroline Wozniacki.

Wozniacki is a shadow of the player who was world No. 1 last year and she had no answers as Williams stormed to a 6-0 6-3 success.

Victoria Azarenka was beaten by Williams in the semi-finals of Wimbledon and she could be the main danger after battling to a 6-4 7-5 win over Angelique Kerber.

The 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will not be adding Olympic gold to her trophy haul as Maria Kirilenko sent her crashing out 7-6(3) 6-3. Kirilenko will now face Maria Sharapova, who beat Kim Clijsters 6-2 7-5.

Roger Federer is on court shortly and we will have news on the world No. 1, along with Andy Murray's mixed doubles game with Laura Robson.
