GB men miss out on hockey medal
Britain's men missed out on a medal as they were beaten by hockey world champions Australia.
After seeing Kate Walsh's side bag bronze on Friday, the men were unable to emulate the heroics of their female counterparts as they were forced to settle for fourth following a 3-1 defeat in the bronze medal match.
Team GB had held the world champions to a 3-3 draw in the group stages, but the partisan crowd were unable to inspire the home favourites to overturn a two-goal deficit as they bowed out with defeat.
Still hurting from their 9-2 thrashing by Netherlands in their semi-final, GB were reeling after an early strike from Simon Orchard, but clawed themselves back into the match courtesy of Iain Lewers from a well-worked penalty corner routine.
But the Kookaburras' top scorer Jamie Dwyer put Australia back on top after half-time before Kieran Govers sealed the win after GB keeper James Fair saved Dwyer's initial strike.
In the final, Germany retained their Olympic title with a 2-1 victory over Netherlands.
