Pistorius beats Oliveira to relay gold

Oscar Pistorius played a pivotal role in sealing 4x100m T42-46 relay gold for South Africa at the Paralympics, beating rival Alan Oliveira of Brazil across the final leg.

South Africa triumphed in a world-record time of 41.78 seconds, with Brazil second in 41.92s and the United States third. However, the latter two teams were subsequently disqualified, meaning silver went to China and bronze to Germany.

After finishing second to Oliveira in the T44 200m final on Sunday, Pistorius expressed concern about the length of his rivals' prosthetic running blades, suggesting Oliveira's were too long. He later apologised for the timing of his comments, but will not face any sanctions from the International Paralympic Committee.

This time there was no repeat, as Pistorius resumed his dominance of the track, maintaining a healthy lead over Oliveira for the duration of the final leg to cross first.

Earlier in the evening, Pistorius won his T44 100m heat, while Britain's Jonnie Peacock was the fastest qualifier, finishing ahead of Oliveira in his race.

Elsewhere on the track, Britain's Bethany Woodward claimed gold in the T37 200m final, clocking 29.65s.

In the pool, British pair Charlotte Henshaw and Liz Johnson took silver and bronze respectively in the 100m SB6 breaststroke, while Oliver Hynd was victorious in the SM8 200m individual medley.
