Marussia reserve driver Rodolfo Gonzalez will drive Max Chilton's car during first practice at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Gonzalez brings PDVSA sponsorship to the team and got his first outing in the car during Friday morning practice in Bahrain, although his time on track was limited by a gearbox issue. He will be returning to the cockpit of the Marussia MR02 in Spain on Friday morning in place of Chilton.

Most teams will test major upgrades during practice for the Spanish Grand Prix and Marussia team principal John Booth said his team was no exception.

"Barcelona is always an interesting race as it provides a very good barometer of car performance up and down the grid and also the benefit of the new upgrades most teams will bring to their cars," he said.

""We are no exception and having tested here over two weeks pre-season, we'll be taking the opportunity to use that baseline data to further analyse our progress to date, conducting some back to back work with our Bahrain package prior to fielding our new developments for this race.

"Bahrain has always been a race that we have struggled at so we are hoping that the Circuit de Catalunya will provide further confirmation of the positive development direction we have been following."
