Sergio Perez says this weekend's US Grand Prix will be the most important of his year as doubts hang over his future in Formula One and he races in front of a large Mexican crowd.

Stories have gathered pace in recent days that Perez is on his way out of McLaren at the end of this year and will be replaced by Kevin Magnussen. The team said on Monday that it had not yet signed any driver contracts for next year but it has been reported that the team has already decided on Magnussen in 2014.

The news broke ahead of what Perez calls his "home" race due to the amount of Mexican fans that make the trip over the border to watch the race outside Austin. He said a lot rests on the race and that he is hoping to give his fans something to cheer about.

"For me, this will be the most important weekend of my year, and I'll be especially keen for a strong result to send my fans back home with a smile on their faces," he said.

"I think we've shown some solid improvement and greater understanding of our car over the past few races, yet, frustratingly, both Jenson and I have had few opportunities to really demonstrate what the car is capable of.

"I'd love another chance of a race like India, where I was able to push throughout the entire race and get some strong points for the team [by finishing fifth]."
