'If I have to retire then so be it' - Button
Jenson Button is contemplating the prospect of retiring from Formula One at the end of the season, but is determined to do everything he can to stay in the sport if possible.
Button's future is unclear as McLaren bosses Ron Dennis and Eric Boullier decide whether he has a place in their long-term driver plan. Fernando Alonso is believed to be a target of the team, but is currently contracted to Ferrari, which is adamant he will stay.
Button admits he could be forced to retire at the end of the year, but struggles to imagine a life without F1.
"We haven't sat down and talked about it," he told the BBC. "If I have to retire at the end of the season then so be it, but I feel I have so much more to give and I can't imagine life without motorsport and especially Formula One."
However, Button said he is not losing sleep over his future and is confident he is doing the best possible job for McLaren.
"I think uncomfortable is the wrong word for me, I don't feel uncomfortable. It's unusual, yes, but sometimes it's that way. Our job is to drive as fast as we can, do the best job for ourselves and the best job for the team. I feel we are both doing the maximum we can and a very good job."
