No favoured driver at Mercedes - Rosberg

Nico Rosberg is adamant he is not the No.2 driver at Mercedes this year despite being told to hold position behind Lewis Hamilton at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

He was clearly quicker in the closing stages of the race three weeks ago, but due to concerns about conserving fuel he was told by team principal Ross Brawn to back off. After the race Rosberg radioed the team saying he would remember the incident for the future, but in China said he had been given reassurances that there was no hierarchy between the drivers.

"[I'm] very confident that there is no No.1 and No.2," he said. "Extremely confident. But you can also answer that question yourself in a few weeks' time or months' time."

Rosberg said the bad feeling following the incident stemmed from a lack of clarity over the procedure for such situations.

"The difficulty was that we hadn't really discussed it beforehand," he added. "That was the mistake that we did. It's important going forward that everything is discussed and then whichever way it goes, if I'm in front and Lewis is behind or vice-a-versa, we will respect it.

"As long as one is prepared for it, it's discussed and it's understood, that's the important thing. That's the main mistake we did as a team."
