'If I find a little advantage ... I'll keep it to myself' - Rosberg
Nico Rosberg says it is only natural for drivers to keep some bits of information away from their team-mate in order to gain an advantage.
Mercedes has a policy of open data between Rosberg and team-mate Lewis Hamilton, but it may need to be more strictly enforced after team boss Toto Wolff called for greater transparency between the two sides of the garage. When Rosberg was asked about the situation, he said he is happy to share data but would not point out exactly where and why he has an advantage.
"It's all open - the data and everything is open," he said. "It's just that sometimes you're not going to put it on the table and say 'Look what I've done'. If I find a little bit of an advantage somewhere then I'm not going to tell everybody about it, I'll keep it to myself. It's little bits and pieces here and there.
"But of course, in the background we're racing for the Silver Arrows and everything is free because as a team we need to be strong and we're strongest when we work together. And we do work together, and it will continue to be like that but at the same time we're fighting each other, so whenever we can have a little bit of an advantage over the other we will take it."
In the last three races Rosberg has turned a three-point deficit to Hamilton into a 29-point lead and he said he will look to capitalise on his good form.
"It's good to have the momentum on my side and I need to try to prolong it as much as possible. There will inevitably come a point when Lewis tries to pull it towards him again, and I just need to make the most of it for now, try to keep it for as long as possible and keep going. I'm on a good run at the moment.
"Twenty nine points is a nice buffer to have. But it's still so early days and I'm just enjoying it and focusing on one race after another. Every time my goal is to extend the championship lead and I managed to extend it in Austria, so goal achieved. It's great to win and it's a fantastic moment together with the team to see what we are achieving and how quick we are and how quick the car is. We need to be careful because this weekend a surprise competitor, Williams, was massively quick and very close, so we need to keep pushing. There are some things we didn't get right this weekend so we need to keep pushing and do a better job next time."
