Nico Rosberg says victory at Hockenheim would be the perfect way to cap a two-week period in which he got married and watched Germany win the FIFA World Cup.

Rosberg suffered his first retirement of the season in Silverstone due to a gearbox failure, with Lewis Hamilton's victory closing the gap in the title fight to just four points. That gearbox failure denied what looked set to be a fascinating tussle between the Mercedes drivers and Rosberg is relishing the opportunity to resume the battle with Lewis Hamilton this weekend.

"It's a great battle between us," Rosberg said. "Every race it's been us two fighting it out for the win and it's fantastic. A tough battle also but good. I'm sure it's going to continue for a long time and it will be very close.

"I look forward to the race here. It's my second home race - I have Monaco and here - so I'm very fortunate in that sense. I look forward to the support and really hope to do a fantastic job, it would an amazing end to the already great times I've been having recently if I could win here at the German Grand Prix."

Rosberg soon put his Silverstone disappointment behind him by tying the knot with long-term girlfriend Vivian Sibold last Friday, before watching Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in Sunday's final, which he says has left him in good spirits ahead of this weekend.

"It's been a very exciting week, Germany also became a world champion which was awesome. In terms of the championship, how do I see it? I just see it as the next race, which is Hockenheim, it's our home race and I really look forward to driving here. I'm here to win of course and to extend the championship lead and that's where it ends for me, I'm really taking it race by race at the moment."
