Mercedes has released the first image of its new W04, albeit a murky one, ahead of the official launch of the car in the Jerez pit lane on Monday.

The team intended to use the social network Twitter to spread word of the online reveal but a technical fault on its website, caused by excessive demand, delayed the unveiling by over three hours. When the first picture did emerge via the team's Twitter account it showed a poorly-lit car without a stepped nose.

The original plan had been to post a picture of a garage door on the team's website that was supposed to open more and more with every tweet featuring the hashtag #F1W04Reveal after 16:00 on Saturday. However, a server problem meant the hashtag trended for about 30 minutes before people started to lose interest. A full picture of the car is promised when the website comes online.

The team will be hoping the official launch of the new car in Jerez goes smoother, when drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will be on hand to speak to the media. Testing of the W04 will then get underway on Tuesday through to Friday.

The online reveal can be found at www.mercedes-amg-f1.com.
