Nico Rosberg opted not to push hard for a quick time in second practice for the Monaco Grand Prix due to damp conditions around the track.

FP2 started wet with limited running, but in the final ten minutes was dry enough for slick tyres. Rosberg was on track at the time but finished the session 20th fastest and nearly four seconds off the pace of his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

"The track was not representative and I wasn't learning anything so I chose not to go for it," he said. "[The car] felt okay, not perfect, but that's normal when you start a weekend in Monaco. It's a work in progress and we have to try to optimise the set-up."

Following five consecutive victories, Rosberg thinks Mercedes again looks quick even though its rivals are a little closer.

"It seems that we are looking very quick here again, although our main competitors seems to be a little closer to us than in Barcelona. Last year we were just as quick in qualifying and just as dominant, so it's not dissimilar. We don't know yet if we have the fastest car, last year we did or we had close to the fastest car, but we will find out on Saturday."
