Jessica Ennis wins Euro award

Jessica Ennis has scooped the European Athlete of the Month award for March.

Britain's world heptathlon champion from last year added the world indoor pentathlon title to her list of awards with a superb effort in Doha last month and it was enough to tip the balance in her favour.

Ennis posted a total of 4937 points and her consistent efforts in the multi-discipline event were enough to break Carolina Kluft's championship record by three points.

Ennis edged Slovenian javelin star Martina Ratej and Portuguese long jumper Naide Gomes.

The men's award went to French triple jump star Teddy Tamgho who edged out walker Alex Schwazer and high jumper Ivan Ukhov.

Selections are based on votes by the public, the media and a panel of European Athletics experts with each counting for 33.3% of the final vote.
