Chad Le Clos made it an Olympic and world title double after winning the 200 metres butterfly gold at the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona.

The South African, who stunned Michael Phelps to claim the Olympic title at London 2012, clocked a time of one minute 54.32 seconds to take first place, ahead of Poland's Pawel Korzeniowski and Wu Peng of China.

"It is the first time I have won a world title so it is a landmark moment for me," Le Clos told the BBC. "Also, I wanted to win this title to mark the anniversary of my Olympic title a year on."

Elsewhere, American sensation Missy Franklin claimed her third gold medal of the Championships after winning the women's 200m freestyle.

Franklin finished first with a time of one minute 54.81 seconds, adding to her 100m backstroke and 4x100m freestyle gold medals at the Palau Sant Jordi.

The 18-year-old won four Olympic golds last year.
