Snooker ties investigated after unusual betting patterns
Snooker's governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), is to look into unusual betting patterns on two Shanghai Masters qualifying matches in Doncaster earlier this week.
The matches in question involve Scotland's Ross Muir's 5-0 win over Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon of Thailand and Egyptian Mohamed Khairy's 5-4 defeat of another Thai, Passakorn Suwannawat 5-4.
"We are liaising with the Gambling Commission to establish the available facts about betting on these matches," said a WPBSA spokesman.
Several bookmakers suspended betting on the matches although the spokesman stressed there was no allegation of wrongdoing by the players at this stage.
