England battle through to Euro final
England's women beat Olympic champions the Netherlands on penalties to reach their first European Championship final in 22 years. They now face Germany in Saturday's final.
England took the lead, very much against the run of play, just after half-time through an own goal. The Dutch equalised midway through the half but England won 3-2 in the shootout, goalkeeper Maddie Hinch saving four penalties and Alex Danson slotting the winner.
Some gloss was taken off the win when England defender Sally Walton was taken off on a stretcher with a leg injury five minutes from time.
England were beaten 2-1 by Germany in the group stage earlier this week, but midfielder Ashleigh Ball said that was not relevant. "In the pool games we didn't perform, we had a number of issues with our performance and the Germany game was definitely not our best."
