Seattle fans officially the noisiest in the world
A group of NFL fans claim to have set a world record for the loudest roar in a stadium during Sunday night's game between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.
The group, called Volume 12, announced on its Facebook page it reached 131.9 decibels in the first quarter of the match. The decibel reading was taken during a sack of San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
The previous record for "loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium" was 131.76 decibels, set in 2011 in Turkey at the Ali Sami Yen Sport Complex Turk Telekom Arena during a football game between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
Volume 12 paid for a Phil Robertson, a Guinness World Records official, to come to Seattle to verify the attempt.
According to the Seattle Times the record was broken when the noise reached 136.6 decibels. Robertson said he could feel a clipboard vibrate in his hand. "There's passionate people in soccer, but here you see veins bulging out of necks."
