NBA star Tony Parker scooped the tournament MVP (most valuable player) award as he helped France secure their first Eurobasket gold with a 80-66 triumph over Lithuania.

San Antonio guard Parker scored 12 points during the victory, while Nicolas Batum scored 17 points and Boris Diaw weighed in with 15 points.

France were making a record 36th appearance at the tournament and included six NBA players on their roster, including Parker - who was instrumental throughout their progression to the final and scored 32 points against Spain in the semi-final.

Spain took the bronze medal and a fourth consecutive podium finish after a 92-66 victory over Croatia.

Great Britain's men were knocked out in the first round of the tournament and now face an anxious wait on whether their Olympic funding will be cut.
