The Elite League has banned a former Hull forward for a total of 47 matches for fighting, kneeing an opponent in the head and an attempted eye gouge.

Derek Campbell was ejected fromn Hull's game with Dundee on Saturday for excessive rough play and was then released by the Stingrays on Tuesday.

Campbell's ban constitutes of 15 games for fighting, 12 games for an attempted eye gouge, 12 games for kneeing an opponent in the head and ten games for using excessive force to the head.

Ejection from the tie with Dundee counted as one game of Campbell's suspension, but Stingrays owner Bobby McEwan justified the decision to release the Canadian.

"We can't condone what happened off the ice and we felt [releasing him] was the right course of action," McEwan told BBC Radio Humberside.

"This is a family sport and it shouldn't happen. Things should stay on the ice and never spill into the arena where the fans are. He's very disappointed and he understands it was a decision that we just had to make."

Elite League head of discipline added: "There is no place for any of these actions in our sport."
