Jamieson lands first World Cup 2013 gold

Michael Jamieson won the 200 metres breaststroke final to claim his first gold medal of the World Cup 2013 series, finishing one and a half seconds ahead of the field on the opening day in Dubai.

Brit Jamieson finished top of the qualifiers before completing victory in the final with a time of two minutes 6.68 seconds.

Earlier in October, Jamieson secured silver in the same event at the third series event in Moscow.

Elsewhere, Fran Halsall was pipped to the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle by Jeanette Ottesen, while Chad le Clos was three hundredths of a second off a new world record in the 200m butterfly event.

Georgia Davis finished fifth in the 50m backstroke, Sophie Allen had to settle for sixth in the 100m breaststroke and Liam Tancock was eighth in the 100m backstroke.

The series comprises of eight meets, with Dubai being the fourth after Eindhoven, Berlin and Moscow. Further meets follow in Doha, Singapore and Tokyo before the tournament closes in Beijing on November 14.
