Great Britain's Lizzie Simmonds took 50m backstroke gold and 200m bronze on the first day of the Beijing World Cup.

Simmonds triumphed in the 50m in 26.83 seconds, beating China's Yuanhui Fu and Ukraine's Daryna Zevina. Sophie Allen set a new British record as she won 100m breaststroke silver in 1:05.74 minutes, and also sealed bronze in the 200m individual medley.

Elsewhere, London 2012 silver medallist Michael Jamieson won 200m breaststroke silver, with world bronze medallist Francesca Halsall adding silver in the 50m freestyle.

Simmonds' medal haul comes after it was announced she had lost her individual funding from British Swimming.
