- Oscar Pistorius trial
Pistorius still devastated by girlfriend's death one year on
Exactly one year on from the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius has released a rare statement outlining his sorrow over the incident.
Pistorius, a six-time Paralympics gold medallist, including two at London 2012, is due to go on trial in March charged with Miss Steenkamp's murder. Pistorius claims he mistook her for an intruder when he shot her through a bathroom door on Valentine's Day last year.
In a statement released on his website, 27-year-old Pistorius wrote: "The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life."
Prosecutors claim Pistorius' actions were premeditated following a fall out between the couple - and the sprinter could face life in prison if found guilty.
The rest of the statement read: "No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved - and continues to love - Reeva.
"The pain and sadness - especially for Reeva's parents, family and friends - consumes me with sorrow."
Pistorius linked to his statement through his Twitter account - his first tweet since the incident.

Speaking to the Agence France-Presse, Miss Steenkamp's uncle, Michael, said the family would hold a private gathering to mark the anniversary of her death.
"We will release balloons in her memory," he said. "They will be red and white, her favourite colours."
Earlier this week, Miss Steenkamp's mother, June, said she would attend the trial, which is due to begin on March 3.
She said: "All we are looking for is closure and to know that our daughter did not suffer on that tragic Valentine's Day."
Miss Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model, was shot three times while she was in the bathroom of Pistorius' South Africa home in the early hours of February 14, 2013.
As well as the pre-meditated murder charge, Pistorius also faces a charge of illegal possession of ammunition.
