Sochi hat-trick for Etherington

Great Britain's Jade Etherington claimed her third medal at the Winter Paralympics after winning silver in the women's visually impaired slalom.

Etherington, guided by Caroline Powell, had won silver in the downhill and bronze in the super-G events. She topped the timesheets after the first run but Russian Aleksandra Frantceva impressed on the second to take the gold medal by 0.65seconds.

"It's a shame we didn't complete the set," Etherington told BBC Sport. "I nearly made it without crying. Obviously it's really annoying not to get the gold, but I'm really happy with the run that we just did with the conditions and being seventh down [to start].

"I think we skied well but obviously Frantceva just nailed it and we're really happy for her getting the gold."

Britain's Kelly Gallagher, the super-G champion, tumbled during her first run and was left "disappointed" with the outcome. She said: "I love slalom and it felt really good in the start gate. I was really excited to be racing with Charlotte [guide Charlotte Evans] and we were working really well, but we need to pick ourselves up and re-focus for the giant slalom on Sunday."
