Former UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard signed a multi-fight deal with World Series of Fighting on Monday, less than three weeks after being released by the UFC.
WSOF president Ray Sefo confirmed Guillard's signing with ESPN.com. Details on the deal were not released.
"Melvin is an amazing fighter with an energetic style that has earned him a massive, loyal fan base," Sefo stated. "He's a guy that comes to fight every time he enters the cage and I'm excited to see how he fares in our lightweight division"
Guillard (31-13-2) was cut by the UFC last month, following a unanimous decision loss to Michael Johnson at a UFC Fight Night event in London. He fought 22 times for the UFC dating back to 2005, compiling a 12-9 record with one no contest.
The 30-year-old lightweight is 2-5 in his last seven bouts. He fought his way into title contention in mid-2011 with a five-fight win streak, but suffered back-to-back first-round losses in his next two fights.
An official date for Guillard's WSOF debut has not been announced. The promotion's next event is WSOF 10 on June 21 in Las Vegas.
