James DeGale has said that Amir Khan did not make the correct choice when he left Frank Warren to sign with Golden Boy Promotions. DeGale, an Olympic gold medallist and member of Warren's stable, added that Khan could have shown more loyalty.

"Personally I do not think it was the right decision," he said. "Maybe he could have shown more loyalty after what Frank did for him after he was knocked out [in the defeat to Breidis Prescott in September 2008].

"People were really down on him then - but he has got to do what he has got to do. This is a business. Money talks and maybe he has been able to add another million to his fee.

"But you have got to respect Amir - I really do. I have a lot of time for him. He is a great fighter and probably could win few more world titles."

Khan said that he moved to Golden Boy to "expand [his] fan base to the United States and around the world," - a desire that DeGale insists he can relate to. "I can understand that," he said. "He has been a pro for five years, he has become a world champion and made a defence of his title, and now he wants to move to America to see he gets the big fights.

"But if he stayed over here I think Frank would have brought in the big fights. Frank would have delivered." DeGale has an imminent momentous contest of his own, a first professional bout in home city London against Matthew Barr at Wembley Arena on February 13th.
