Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee helped England complete a clean sweep of triathlon titles at the Commonwealth Games after easing to gold in the mixed team relay on Saturday.

The quartet of Vicky Holland, Jodie Stimpson and the Brownlee brothers completed the race in one hour, 13 minutes and 24 seconds, nearly a minute ahead of South Africa with Ryan Bailie edging a sprint finish to give Australia bronze over Canada.

England trailed Canada after the Netherlands' leg of the 400m swim, 6km cycle, and 1.6km run course but Jonathan Brownlee opened up a significant lead to give Stimpson, who won the women's event on Thursday, a healthy advantage at the half-way mark.

Despite appearing to stray outside of the box on the handover, Alistair Brownlee escaped a penalty and coasted clear of the field at Strathclyde Park to give England their 13th gold of the games.

"It's fantastic, I knew I could run alright but I didn't want another sprint like a few weeks ago so I was determined to win it on the bike," Alistair Brownlee said.

His brother, Jonathan, added: "It was a good race, it was always close, or at least it was until the last leg. Vicky gave us a good start, I just had to keep it safe, Jodie destroyed it and then Alistair finished it off."

Elsewhere, Francesca Jones won Wales' first gold medal in Glasgow in the individual ribbon rhythmic gymnastics. The 23-year-old, who is retiring at the end of the event, scored 14.500 in the final with Malaysia's Wong Poh San and Canadian Patricia Bezzoubenko finishing second and third.

England's Mick Gault has equalled a Commonwealth Games record by winning bronze in the 10m air pistol, claiming his 18th medal.

Gault, 60, moves level with Australian shooter Phillip Adams after coming third at Carnoustie on Saturday but will get the opportunity to break the record when he competes in the 50m discipline on Monday.
