Leeds Rhinos have announced that Jamie Peacock will be rested for their Super League curtain raiser with Crusaders in Wrexham on Friday.

Peacock joined pre-season training a couple of weeks after the rest of the Rhinos squad in a bid to recover from the exertions of leading England to the final of the Four Nations in November. It would appear Peacock is still some way short of fitness, as coach Brian McClennan does not want to risk him against the Crusaders.

"We are fortunate to have a fully fit squad this week so we are able to rest Jamie Peacock to give him another week to continue his build-up to the start of the season," McClennan said.

The Rhinos have made no secret that their early-season priority is the World Club Challenge against Melbourne Storm next month and Peacock will have three games to prime himself for the showdown with the Australian powerhouses.
