Adlington kicks off with bronze

Rebecca Adlington kicked off her bid to win four Commonwealth medals in the swimming pool with a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle as Wales' Jazmin Carlin snatched silver.
In her weakest event, Adlington finished ahead of England team-mate Jo Jackson to claim her first Commonwealth medal, in a race won by Australia's Kylie Palmer.
Palmer, the fastest qualifier, kicked hard on the final length to take gold in a time of 1:57.50 ahead of Carlin and Adlington. The double Olympic champion has added the 200m to her repertoire in Delhi, but admits she is not sure if she will cope with the extra races.
"I'm very pleased with that swim, the 200m for me is a bonus event, and it's nice to get involved," Adlington told BBC Sport. "It's definitely a tough week but now's the time to try it, try to cope with it and see how you do. If I don't cope with it and tire towards the end of the week, I have the chance to say it didn't work for me. Better to try it now than at the Worlds or Olympics."
Defending champion David Carry produced a strong finish to win bronze in the men's 400m freestyle, after fellow Scot Robbie Renwick faded after leading for much of the race. Hannah Miley missed out on a medal in the women's 200m individual medley. Michael Rock, who only scraped into the 200m butterfly final, claimed a surprise silver medal. The English men claimed fifth medal for the home nations on the opening day of action in the DR SP Mukherjee Aquatics Complex, finishing behind Australia in the 4x100m freestyle final.
In the hockey, Scotland pulled off an impressive draw against hosts India. Scotland looked to be on course for a shock upset when they went ahead through Holly Cram, but India salvaged a draw through Jasjeet Kaur Handa. Wales lost their opening Group B match 5-1 to New Zealand. Wales, who take on England on Tuesday, were still in the hunt at half-time after Abigail Welsford cancelled out Katie Glynn's opener.

England's badminton got off to a faultless start by storming to a thoroughly one-sided victory over the Falkland Islands. England, who eased to a 5-0 win, could afford the luxury of giving Nathan Robertson the morning off.
There were squash singles wins for Scottish trio Alan Clyne, Frania Gillen-Buchert and Harry Leitch at the Siri Fort Sports Complex, while in the women's table tennis singles, there were 3-0 defeats against Australian opponents for the Welsh participants.
England's netballers laid down a marker by beating Barbados 81-20, with Jo Harten racking up an impressive 33 points.
