Commonwealth 400m hurdles champion Dai Greene has been forced to pull out of Wales' 4x400m relay squad with a foot injury.

Greene was Wales' first gold medallist in Delhi to add to his European crown he won earlier in Barcelona, becoming only the fourth Welshman to complete a European-Commonwealth double.

But Greene, who follows in Colin Jackson, Iwan Thomas and Lyn Davies' footsteps, has made the decision to withdraw from the relay to avoid aggravating a foot injury.

"I had been managing a foot problem all week but it got worse after each race," Greene said. "The physio and doctors support my decision not to race and risk further injury.

"The problem happened before in 2007 and ruined my season. It was a similar situation - I'd won the 400m hurdles with the foot problem and then did the relay. I didn't race again all year, it meant three months out."

However, despite the injury concern, the 24-year-old has something of a Midas touch this season, and is delighted to end the season on a high.

"I am really pleased and my season could not have gone any better," he said. "I have won everything I have entered, the UK trials, the Commonwealth Games European Championships and the World Cup.

"I'm on such a high at the moment. Winter is going to be very easy with all these medals to keep me warm. It all bodes well for next year at the World Championships and the London 2012 Olympics."
