Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams has missed out on a place in the Great Britain team for the Skeleton World Championship in Germany.

Williams became Britain's first individual Olympic champion away from the skating rink in Vancouver 12 months ago, but has once again suffered the disappointment of being left out of the British squad.

She missed out on the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, and having missed half of the 2010/11 season Williams has failed to amass enough points to earn Britain a third spot in the event.

Former Olympic silver medallist Shelley Rudman and Donna Creighton have been picked to represent Britain in Konigssee later this month. Rudman is currently ranked second in the world, with Creighton sixth, meaning there is no room for Williams, who won a silver medal in Lake Placid two years ago.

"We were disappointed not to achieve a third quota place for the women's team and that made it a particularly difficult decision for us," GB performance director Andi Schmid said. "We had to look at performances this season and that meant we had to go with Shelley and Donna."

Kristan Bromley, Chris Type and Andy Wood are the men's representatives for the event which begins on February 24.
