World record holder Liam Tancock faced little challenge as he blazed to victory in the 50m backstroke at the British Swimming Championships in Manchester.

The 25-year-old showed why he is world champion in the event as he touched home in 24.95, nearly a second clear of second-placed Craig McNally.

Fran Halsall claimed her second title of the week with victory in the 50m freestyle. After her victory in the 100m freestyle, the European 100m champion took the sprint title in a time of 25.08.

Although Halsall admitted the time was not as good as she hoped, she was pleased with her progress.

"I was happy with that. It stands me in good stead," Halsall said. "It [her time] is going to come down, I know that."

Hannah Miley showed no signs of fatigue as she stormed to victory in the 400m individual medley in her 17th race of the competition. In her best discipline, Miley had established a lead before the halfway stage, and the European champion touched home in 4:39.12.

David Davies put a difficult 2010 firmly behind him with victory in the 1500m freestyle. The Welshman took the lead with six lengths to go, and showed impressive stamina to open his lead and touch home in 15 minutes 06.44 seconds ahead of Daniel Fogg and Tom Allen.

"The time is nowhere near my best time but (it is) the circumstances of everything I went through," Davies said after his win. "There were some dark days and it's only the last couple of weeks I've came into a bit of form.

Roberto Pavoni claimed victory in the men's 400m individual medley, while Kathryn Johnstone won the 50m breaststroke in 32.47.
