WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has hit back at Joe Calzaghe, labelling the Welshman a "grumpy Victor Meldrew".

Calzaghe called Froch a "spoilt little bitch" in an interview published in City AM on Tuesday, continuing a long-standing feud which began when Calzaghe refused Froch's attempts to organise a fight between the two.

"I think Joe's a bit of a strange guy if I'm honest," Froch said to livefight.com. "I don't mean that nastily, but I really think he is a grump. Like a Welsh Victor Meldrew.

"I called him out for two years, closed in on him until he had to vacate or fight me - and we all know which option he took so we'll just leave it at that."

Calzaghe retired from the sport undefeated in 2009, after which he made a much-derided appearance on Strictly Come Dancing. Froch made clear his thoughts on the 37-year-old's dancefloor performance, saying: "If you want to come back and fight me, then get in line. If not, take your leotard and bore off.

"One minute he gives me credit for my career, then three months later comes out with this. He's obviously just after a bit of publicity after his impression of rigor mortis on Strictly Embarrassing."

Froch is next in action on April 24 against Mikkel Kessler in the Super Six series, the winner of which will claim the unified WBA and WBC super-middleweight titles.
