Apia Park has been the home of Western Samoa and latterly Samoa since their first home international against Fiji in 1924. Western Samoa became an independent state in 1962, with Apia as its capital, and changed its name to Samoa in 1997.

A multi-functional stadium, located a short distance from the nation's capital of Apia, is primarily used for rugby events and currently has a capacity of 15,000. Most recently the ground has played host to some of Samoa's matches in the Pacific Nations Cup.

The venue was also one of the main venues for the 2007 Pacific Games when athletics, table tennis, badminton, bowls and rugby were staged within the complex. The stadium also plays host to the finals of the National Provincial Championship, a traditional stepping stone for leading players, and matches in the Pacific Rugby Cup competition.

Started in 2006, the tournament involves representative teams from Fiji, Tonga and Samoa and was created with the aim of improving the quality of rugby in the Pacific Islands - with Savaii Samoa and Upolu Samoa carrying the flag for the nation. The ground has also played host to many of the major touring nations over the years - most recently Ireland in 2003.
