Profile

Maso began his career in the 13-man code, following in the footsteps of his father, Jep, who was a French international. After playing for XIII Catalans, Maso switched codes and joined Perpignan.

His Test debut for France followed in 1966 against Italy, when he also scored his first try. His Five Nations debut came in 1967, against Scotland at Murrayfield, and he played two Tests at fly-half on an unsuccessful tour to Australia and New Zealand in 1968.

Arguably his finest Test performance came in 1972, when he started in the centre as France thrashed England 37-12 at the Stade Colombes. Maso played his final Test against Romania in 1973.

He was inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame in 2003, having taken up a position as team manager of the French national team.
