Isaac Ross has declared his allegiance to the Chiefs for the inaugural Super Rugby season.

The Canterbury lock will make the move north after a difficult spell with the Crusaders, whom he debuted for in 2007.

Capped eight times by the All Blacks, Ross has been out of the selection race since the conclusion of the 2009 Tri-Nations.

He was omitted for that year's northern hemisphere tour and told to bulk up, but has not won a recall since. During the All Blacks' June Tests he was on duty for the New Zealand Maori.

"I am really excited about the move up north as this is a good change for me," he said. "I've heard Fozzie [Ian Foster] is a great coach and I'm looking forward to working with him along with players such as Liam Messam who I've come through most of the national age grades with and played with in the New Zealand Maori with this year."

Ross joins former Highlander Hayden Triggs and ex-Hurricanes back-row Scott Waldrom as the latest additions to the squad.
