Adriaan Ferris has been promoted to the role of Northland rugby coach for the 2011 season.

Coach of the Northland development team for the last two seasons, Ferris will take charge of the province's premier side next year, replacing new Blues assistant coach Bryce Woodward. Former North Harbour player Ferris also played for various Northland representative sides and at club level there.

"I have always aspired to coach Northland and after finishing my senior playing career I embarked on a coaching path which has ultimately lead to this appointment," he said. "2011 is an exciting year for Northland and New Zealand rugby and I am totally committed to making a positive contribution to the ITM Champinship team."

Northland Rugby Union chairman Andrew Golightly said Woodward would be available to Ferris in a mentor capacity. An assistant forward coach was still to be appointed.
