Danny Lee has been forced to retire due to an ongoing shoulder problem.

The former All Black scrum-half underwent surgery in February in order to solve the problem but has been forced to concede defeat after an injury-ravaged spell with the Newport Gwent Dragons.

The 34-year-old joined the Magners League side prior to the 2009-10 season following a nomadic career in New Zealand.

At Super Rugby level he turned out for four of the five Kiwi franchises, the Blues, Highlanders, Chiefs and Hurricanes, and enjoyed provincial spells with Hawke's Bay, Otago and Counties Manukau.

He made a try-scoring Test debut against England in a 31-28 Twickenham loss in 2002 and followed that up with a further start against France in Paris.
