London Wasps have confirmed John Hart as club captain for the coming Aviva Premiership season.

The back-rower has made more than 150 appearances for the club after making his debut in 2003. Hart, 29, has captained the side on numerous occasions, including acting as stand-in captain during the 2005-06 season when Lawrence Dallaglio was injured, and he is relishing the prospect of leading a new-look Wasps side this season.

"We've made some major progress over the summer with so many new players and new coaching staff and we are in a very positive place right now," he said. "Things seem to be heading in the right direction and I'm delighted to be named captain."

Director of rugby Dai Young admitted that fellow flanker Tom Rees had been in contention to lead the side this season until he suffered a further injury set back which will keep him on the sidelines for six to nine months.

"John is Wasps through and through having been here his entire career and he's had a big say off the field over the summer as we prepare for the new season," Young said. "For me there were only two people in the running to be captain, John and Tom Rees and with Tom injured now the decision was an easy one. John has everyone's respect among the players and the coaching staff and I've no doubt he's the right man for the job."
