Steven Hansen is seen as a shoo-in for the vacant position of New Zealand head coach but the former Wales boss is taking nothing for granted.

Hansen spent eight years as an assistant to Graham Henry, who stepped down as All Blacks boss earlier this week, and is the overwhelming favourite to take over.

However, the heir apparent must first go through the interview process with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU). Consequently, he is not getting ahead of himself - even though he feels he is perfectly primed to take the tob job in rugby.

"I believe I'm ready for it, I'm excited by the thought of it but I have to get it first," he is quoted as saying by the New Zealand Herald. "There are no assumptions from me that is the case. I have to go and present well and convince the panel I can do that and I'm confident I can do the right thing.

"If not, it'll be hugely disappointing. I've been part of a team for eight years and I've always been a believer that the team comes first and the individual comes second."

Understandably, Hansen is somewhat nervous about his upcoming interview but is hopeful that his sincerity and experience will see him through.

"If you just talk from the heart and talk from your experiences and are honest and up front, then what will be, will be," he said.

"It's not about going in and trying to bullshit anyone. It's about going in, being straight up and saying this is how I see it, these are the qualities I bring, these are the things I would like to see happen, these are the people I would like to help me do the job and these are the reasons why."
