London Wasps have revealed that second-row Marco Wentzel will miss the rest of the season.

The lock sustained a dislocated shoulder against Sale Sharks on Friday and will be forced to undergo the surgeon's knife. Wentzel has been skippering the beleaguered Premiership side in Joe Hart's absence and the back-row is said to be set for an April return - along with Ross Filipo.

Elliot Daly limped off against Sale but the club are hopeful he will be fit for this weekend's match with London Irish. Wasps are also optimistic that Richard Birkett and Richard Haughton will also be fit.

And Christian Wade and Tom Varndell are also said to be progressing well from surgery but the club are reluctant to set a date in stone for their return. But there is less good news regarding Chris Mayor and Riki Flutey. The pair will play no part in the rest of the season with a thumb and ankle injury respectively. Tom Rees and Chris Bell are also continuing their long-term recovery from their rehabilitation.
