Australia playmaker Berrick Barnes faces six weeks on the sidelines with a dislocated thumb but will be fit to play against the British & Irish Lions. Barnes suffered the injury during the Waratahs' Super Rugby defeat to the Cheetahs on Friday, after just returning to the side following a knee injury. Barnes will have to undergo surgery on his thumb, which is a significant blow to the Waratahs who have already suffered three defeats in their opening four matches under new coach Michael Cheika. However Barnes will have sufficient time to prove his form and fitness to Wallabies head coach Robbie Deans as he vies with the likes of Quade Cooper, James O'Connor and Kurtley Beale for a place in the starting line-up to face the Lions. |
