The Crusaders have been hit by a fresh injury blow ahead of their Super Rugby fixture against the Sharks in Durban. with Corey Flynn ruled out after sustaining an eye injury at training on Wednesday. Ben Funnell replaces the All Blacks hooker in the starting side, with Codie Taylor called up from New Zealand to take a place on the replacements bench.

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder had previously made three changes to the starting team that defeated the Stormers at Newlands. Andy Ellis returns to half-back, with Willi Heinz moving to the bench. Zac Guildford moves to the left wing to replace Johnny McNicholl, who fractured his right fibula against the Stormers, with Adam Whitelock selected on the right wing.

On the bench, Telusa Veainu will have the opportunity to make his first appearance for the Crusaders if he makes it onto the field.
