Wycliff Palu will return from an ankle injury off the New South Wales Waratahs bench in the Super Rugby fixture against the Hurricanes in Wellington.

The incumbent Wallabies N0. 8 has missed the past four matches with an ankle injury suffered against Melbourne Rebels in round three, but coach Michael Cheika has resisted the temptation to rush the injury-plagued forward straight into the starting side. Pat McCutcheon retains the number eight jumper for at least one more week.

Cheika has made just one change to the starting line-up that scraped home against Western Force: tight-head prop Sekope Kepu replaces fellow Wallabies front-rower Paddy Ryan who reverts to the bench.

Tatafu Polota-Nau was ruled out due to concussion, with Luke Holmes replacing the Test hooker on the bench.

Waratahs: Israel Folau; Peter Betham, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Rob Horne, Drew Mitchell; Bernard Foley, Brendan McKibbin; Pat McCutcheon, Michael Hooper, Dave Dennis (captain); Kane Douglas, Sitaleki Timani; Sekope Kepu, John Ulugia, Benn Robinson. Replacements: Luke Holmes, Paddy Ryan, Mitchell Chapman, Wycliff Palu, Matt Lucas, Ben Volavola, Tom Kingston.
