One-Test All Blacks fly-half Mike Delany is leaving Japanese club rugby for France, where he has signed a two-year contract with Clermont.

Delany, 30, arrived at the powerful club as a temporary replacement for the injured Julien Farnoux but has been asked to stay on.

He will leave Japan's Panasonic Wild Knights in time for the start of the next French Top 14 season starting later this year.

Former Bay of Plenty, Chiefs and Highlanders playmaker Delany, who won his sole Test cap against Italy in 2009, will contest the No. 10 jersey at Clermont with Australian Brock James.
