South Africa Under-20s 41 - 34 New Zealand Under-20s

South Africa overcame a 21-point deficit to defeat New Zealand 41-34 in the third-place play-off at the 2013 IRB Junior World Championship. New Zealand led 26-21 at half-time, but the Baby Boks turned around this deficit to win the match 41-34 after the Junior All Blacks had two players sent to the sin-bin at Stade de la Rabine in France.

Left wing Lolagi Visinia opened the scoring for the Baby Blacks in the seventh minute, and then scored a second try five minutes later before loseph Edwards crashed over to extend the lead to 21-0, with five-eighth Simon Hickey having converted all three tries.

South Africa responded with tries from right wing Luther Obi, tight-head prop Luan de Bruin and left winger Seabelo Senatla, who touched down a 60-metre intercept to level the score minutes before half-time. New Zealand concluded the first-half scoring when fullback Joseph Webber scored on the stroke of the interval to give the Baby Blacks a 26-21 lead at the break.

Hickey kicked a penalty to extend the lead shortly after half-time, but South Africa began to dominate possession and converted this into points, and yellow cards to New Zealand players Jordan Manihera and Kalafi Pongi gifted the Baby Boks the numbers advantage they needed to put the game beyond reach of the Kiwis.

Tries to Ruan Steenkamp, replacement Kwagga Smith, and half-back Stefan Ungerer saw South Africa lead 41-29 before Manihera crossed for a consolation score in the 77th minute.
