Cory Jane may yet play for New Zealand this year, on the All Blacks' tour of Europe, after announcing he plans to return to rugby in October.

Jane tweeted he was set to begin a training program to play for Wellington in their round-eight GNP match against Auckland on October 5.

Jane, 30, seriously injured knee ligaments at a pre-season Hurricanes training session on January 31, and he subsequently missed the Super Rugby season and the Dave Gallaher Trophy Tests against France in June. He will also be sidelined throughout the Rugby Championship that kicks off with the Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia in Sydney on August 17.

Jane could showcase his fitness in at least two round-robin games for Wellington, and up to two more matches if they reach the GNP play-offs, before the All Blacks depart New Zealand to Japan and Europe. The All Blacks play their first Test against Japan in Tokyo on November 2.
